Art-Invest Real Estate has submitted plans to Westminster City Council for the refurbishment of Sackville House, W1.
The company plans to deliver 30,000 sq ft of new grade-A, sustainably led office space at the Grade II listed property.
The Buckley Gray Yeoman-designed scheme would include a complete internal refurbishment of the site, which sits on the corner of Sackville Street and Piccadilly, and an extension at the back and top of the building.
Owing to its historical significance, the existing building would be largely retained but wellbeing amenities will be added for occupiers including a roof terrace with small pavilion and new end-of-journey facilities.
A design and access statement submitted by Buckley Gray Yeoman to Westminster City Council said the current building is “of poor quality internally” and needs upgrading to appeal to modern occupiers. It added that “the inefficient layout leads to a substandard office provision” which, alongside poor energy efficiency and sustainability terms, means it is not meeting occupier demands.
Art-Invest anticipates that a decision will be made by the council in early 2024.
The news follows Art-Invest’s planning approval at Canada Water Dockside in September. The 4.5-acre site will offer new workspace in grade-A, future-focused buildings with varied food and drink offerings, surrounded by 130 acres of green space.
Luka Vukotic, partner and head of development at Art-Invest Real Estate, said: “Our proposals for Sackville House will deliver a much-needed rejuvenation of this important listed building.”
Victoria Cooper-Kempski, associate director at Buckley Gray Yeoman, added: “Sackville House is a beautiful building, steeped in history and with an exciting future ahead. The proposed scheme retains as much of the building’s fabric and heritage as possible while delivering an exemplar commercial building for the next generation.”
