Airbnb hosts with an eye for the unusual are being invited to apply for a share of an £8m fund launched by the brand to create the world’s quirkiest holiday rentals.
The company is seeking outlandish design ideas from existing hosts on the online platform and will provide funding for the 100 best submissions to be built. Ideas will be judged by an expert panel for originality, feasibility and sustainability, as well as the overall experience for guests, with each of the winners receiving $100,000 to make their idea happen.
Airbnb said its customers are seeking more unusual lodgings. Nights booked at “unique” properties increased globally by more than 49% from 2019 to 2021.
