Plans for an affordable housing development in Nottingham’s Meadows area have been revealed by developer The Quantum Consortium. The Embankment, which has been designed by architect Maber Associates, will comprise redeveloping two adjacent brownfield sites – the former Meadow Bank Day Hospital and the Cremorne Public House – into a new urban quarter a mile south of the city centre. The scheme will comprise a mix of one- and two-bedroom flats, as well as houses, and is being developed by the Consortium which includes Derwent Living, East Midlands Housing, LHA and Amber Valley Housing. The apartment block on the former Meadow Bank Day Hospital site will form a new entrance to the Meadows. Each apartment will have a balcony with views across the river and city. The development on the site of the former Cremorne Public House will produce a high density mixed residential scheme. The properties will be sold as New Build Home Buy through Derwent Living’s Easy Living scheme. Carl Larter, business development director at Derwent Living, said: “The development will provide much-needed affordable homes locally, allowing people to buy 50% of the property and pay a rent on the remaining half.” The scheme has secured a £1.4m Housing Corporation grant, and the total project cost is over £6.2m. Completion is due in February 2008.
