New government statistics

The latest government statistics show that orders for new construction in the twelve months up to November 2000, rose by 7% when compared with the previous twelve months. Orders in the three months preceding November, compared to the same three months a year earlier, showed a similar increase.

New orders in the private housing sector in the three months up to November fell by 9% compared with the previous three months, and were 10% lower than the same three-month period a year ago. Orders in the twelve months preceding November rose by 1% on the previous twelve-month period.

Public housing and housing association orders in the three months up to November, were 19% higher compared with the previous three months, but 20% lower than during the same period in the previous year.

Overall, orders in the infrastructure and public housing sectors showed significant increases in the three months preceding November, compared to the previous three months, but orders in all other sectors fell. This is said to have been a result of the exceptionally high orders reported earlier in the year.
