U+I has added a 12-storey office to its plans for the first phase of its £1.4bn Mayfield development in Manchester.
The developer, as part of a partnership between Manchester City Council, London & Continental Railways and Transport for Greater Manchester, will submit a planning application for the 220,000 sq ft office building in the autumn.
Subject to planning permission, the office building will be built in the first phase of the 24-acre development opposite Piccadilly station.
A 6.5-acre park, eight-storey 70,000 sq ft office building, and 545-space multi-storey car park will also be built in the first phase of the development.
Overall, the wider Mayfield scheme will potentially provide 1,500 homes, more than 1.6m sq ft of office space, a 650-bedroom hotel, and retail and leisure facilities.
James Heather, development director for U+I and the Mayfield Partnership, said: “We were delighted with the response to our initial consultation this summer and amid strong occupier interest in Mayfield we are pleased to be bringing forward this office building as part of phase one.
“Our vision is for a truly outstanding place to work and play, and I believe the amazing views over Mayfield Park this flagship office building will deliver will be unrivalled anywhere in Manchester.
“Manchester is a first-class location for businesses and we need the confidence to deliver high quality workspace and maintain a pipeline of premium office development to attract further inward investment to our city.”
