The board of Game Digital has said it is to recommend its shareholders accept the takeover bid by Mike Ashley’s Sports Direct.
The firm, which is the parent company of computer game retailer Game, said that, despite being “disappointed” that Sports Direct issued its offer document unilaterally while discussions were ongoing about the business’s transformation strategy and the roll-out of its Belong branded gaming “arenas”, it had decided that 30p per share represented a fair value for the group. It came to this decision after deliberation and advice from Canaccord Genuity.
Game added that its board members that hold shares in the business would be accepting the offer.
