Workers at the Daily Express and Daily Star who toiled for years under the cost-cutting regime of Richard Desmond need not crane their necks to spy their cigar-chomping former proprietor’s next move.
He sold the papers to rival Reach last year. Now they have moved into the Daily Mirror publisher’s headquarters, high up in the main skyscraper at Canary Wharf, Desmond’s former charges have front-row seats as the one-time media tycoon turns his hand to property development.
Desmond is aiming to turn the former Westferry Printworks into a sprawling complex of more than 1,500 flats valued at an estimated £1bn.
