It marks WeWork’s first foray out of London and Manchester where it has been rapidly buying up offices. The co-working giant is also in advanced discussion to move to Birmingham.
Mathieu Proust, general manager for WeWork in the UK and Ireland, said: “Announcing our expansion to Edinburgh is a key moment for us in the UK. Not only is it a flourishing city in terms of culture and opportunity, but for business, it’s a central point for entrepreneurs and large companies to be based.”
Eighty George Street is WeWork’s 53rd building in the UK and its fifth outside of London.
To date, WeWork has opened more than 35 of the 53 buildings.
The firm has also begun looking at buying up UK offices, with CBRE instructed last year on potential building purchases in Glasgow and Edinburgh for its own real estate investment fund. It is looking for spaces of more than 30,000 sq ft, and is favouring existing buildings over new-builds so that it can accelerate its expansion.
WeWork was advised by JLL on the Edinburgh deal. NFU Mutual worked with JLL and Knight Frank.
