LABOUR PARTY CONFERENCE: Labour will back a second vote on leaving the European Union if there is an impasse in negotiations by the Conservative government.
In a speech to the party conference in Liverpool, Sir Keir Starmer, MP and shadow secretary of state for exiting the European Union, said should there be an impasse, Labour will campaign for another public vote. “Nobody is ruling out remain for an option,” he said.
Labour intends to try and force a General Election if the government does not meet its six tests for leaving the EU.

Labour intends to try and force a General Election if the government does not meet its six tests for leaving the EU.
“Our preference is clear: we want a General Election to sweep away this failed government,” said Starmer.
“If that’s not possible, we must have another option, and that must include campaigning for a public vote.”
Labour members are now voting on the motion which says: “If we cannot get a General Election, Labour must support all options remaining on the table, including campaigning for a public vote.”
Starmer said: “If the PM returns with a deal that does not meet our tests, we will vote against her deal.”
“If the PM thinks she can come back with a vague deal, asking us to leap blindfolded into the unknown, we will vote that down. We did not set tests that could be met by refusing to answer the question.
“A vague or blind Brexit is a leap to nowhere and we will have no part of it.”
