Deloitte to return to Athene Place in 2020
Deloitte is poised to return to Athene Place in 2020, having agreed terms for a 15-year lease for 80,000 sq ft.
The 147,000 sq ft office building was acquired by Henderson Park and Endurance Land from Commerzbank earlier this year for £101m, and is expected to undergo refurbishment.
Deloitte, which vacated the building over the summer, previously occupied the entire building. It will now relocate its digital arm there from its current base at Derwent’s the Buckley Building, EC1.
Outgrowing the Buckley Building
A press spokesperson said: “The last five years at Deloitte Digital have seen such growth that we are quickly outgrowing our purpose-built studio, The Buckley Building, that has helped support so much of it.
“Looking forward, we have found at the north point of the Deloitte London campus 80,000 sq ft that will be our platform for what happens next. This is one of the best creative briefs we could ask for, as it’s a total blank canvas and we can once more design what we think the future of work should be.
“We’re already moving quickly forward as we make plans to move in late 2020.”
Deloitte has reduced the amount of space it occupies at its central London campus, vacating circa 300,000 sq ft and occupying 275,000 sq ft at One New Street Square, EC4.
As well as vacating Athene Place, EC4, Deloitte has also permanently left 1 Stonecutter Street, where it had occupied all of the 150,000 sq ft building.
Rehousing staff
Deloitte staff at both buildings were rehoused over the summer in the company’s new headquarters at One New Street Square, and premises at Hill House, Two and Three New Street Square.
Previously, Deloitte had a lease on the entirety of Athene Place until 2027, with a lease break in 2019.
Meanwhile, its lease at 1 Stonecutter Street, owned by Ivanhoe Cambridge, was also due to expire in 2019.
DeVono Cresa is acting for Deloitte on the new Athene Place leasing requirement. BH2 is advising the landlord, Henderson Park and Endurance Land. Meanwhile, CBRE also now also been appointed to let the remainder of building.
