Statisticians are to overhaul the way in which they measure and publish housing market data to bring “harmony and coherence” to a huge and complex array of information.
The Office for National Statistics said that it was difficult for the public to find answers for any questions they had on the housing market because of the numerous official bodies publishing different statistics on the topic.
Figures on the housing market are published by seven government departments, “plus other government arm’s-length bodies, on numerous different websites”, the ONS said.
