In the shadow of Canary Wharf and City airport in London’s docklands is a sign of the changes happening in the once-sedate market for warehouses: a multistorey shed.
The facility, which is set for completion next year by the developer Gazeley, will be the UK’s first three-storey warehouse, measuring 426,000 sq ft in total floor space and with access for lorries to each level.
Such multi-level logistics buildings have become relatively common in densely populated cities in Asian countries such as Japan, South Korea and Singapore.
