Housebuilding hasn’t been easier for 30 years, says Taylor Wimpey

Reforms to the planning system have cleared the way for one of Britain’s biggest housebuilders to increase production, reduce its land bank and hand over millions of pounds more in dividends.

Taylor Wimpey said that securing land and receiving planning permission was easier now than at any time in the past 30 years.

The result, according to its chief executive, is a reduction in the time that it holds on to land to about four and a half years — a year less than at present — and the ability to build at a faster rate.
