Huge Chinese developer buys first London site

A Chinese company that is among the world’s largest residential property developers has bought its first site in Britain.

Country Garden has bought a site in Poplar, east London, with planning consent for a £400m development that includes 785 homes.

The scheme near the River Lea, called Ailsa Wharf, has been bought from Galliard Homes and Lindhill, the developers, which have spent five years buying the 270,000 sq ft site from seven landowners.
