RICS announces new governing council members

The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors has appointed 10 new members to its governing council. The newly elected members, which include UCEM lecturer David Hourihan, the cabinet’s head of the property profession Lynda Rawsthorne, Mott MacDonald’s Victoria Clapp and CBRE executive director Jason Hardman, take their seats on 1 January. Just 6.53% of the RICS membership voted in the elections. RICS president Tina Paillet said: “As a member-led organisation, these elections were a crucial way by which RICS members across the world contributed to shaping the future of our profession, driving positive change in the built and natural environment.” The RICS said it had conducted a comprehensive review of the election process after last year’s GC election, streamlining the application process and ensuring a more transparent and efficient voting experience.  It added that there had been an “exceptional increase” in members putting themselves forward for election, particularly in the UK and Ireland and construction seats. More than 230 members put themselves forward for the council.
