The Arch Company is investing £3.7m to revitalise a row of 10 arches, transforming them into modern spaces designed to attract a mix of new businesses, including those in leisure and retail.
Asda is the first company to secure space in this row, which will undergo enhancement works starting in shortly, with plans to open by spring 2025.
The investment is part of the Arch Company’s £200m Project 1000, which plans to repurpose 1,000 vacant spaces in England and Wales by 2030.
The upgrades will feature new frontages, updated services and drainage, interior lining to ensure the spaces are dry and ready for use, and the addition of a large outdoor seating area.
Joanne Cruickshank, head of leasing for the regions at the Arch Company, said: “This is our third deal with Asda so far. These arches are set in a prime location, and we look forward to welcoming many new businesses in the future – we anticipate demand to be strong.”
An Asda spokesperson said: “This new Asda Express will be well placed to meet the needs of customers, whether that be ‘top-up’ shopping trips, lunch on the go or scratch-cooking essentials.”
B1 Real Estate acted as leasing agent.
