City Corporation to showcase Square Mile on global stage
The City of London Corporation will use MIPIM to fight back at the idea that the Square Mile is in decline as an office location.
The corporation has produced a heat map to show that 9m sq ft of space is currently under construction in the Square Mile. The work underway will deliver floorspace equivalent to 10 Cheesegrater buildings or 18 Gherkins.
Corporation delegates will demonstrate to the world’s developers and investors at the event in Cannes next month that London is the best place to build and invest.

Corporation figures show that within the gross figure of 9m sq ft under construction, around 5.4m sq ft represents a net uplift in new space for the Square Mile. The majority of this activity will deliver sustainable grade-A office space to accommodate projected jobs growth in the City, while a range of public realm enhancements, including new pedestrian routes, as well as new retail, cultural, green and educational spaces will create “a vibrant and dynamic visitor destination for everyone to enjoy”.
The corporation said it received a 25% increase in planning applications and a similar increase in the number of approvals in 2023, compared with the previous year. This followed year-on-year increases in planning applications received and decided since 2020.

“As policy chairman and leader of the City of London Corporation, I will be hard at work with my delegation at MIPIM to ensure that everyone knows that the City is the world’s most innovative, inclusive and sustainable business ecosystem, as well as an attractive place to invest, work, live, learn and visit.”
