The decision to delay constructing HS2’s London terminus will cost at least another £200m, a report from a cross-party group of MPs has warned.
The completion of the route through a 7.2km tunnel to a rebuilt Euston Station was halted earlier this year as costs ballooned from a £37.5bn estimate in 2013 to more than £70bn.
A report the House of Commons Public Accounts Committee said the earlier budgets for Euston station were “completely unrealistic”. The cost of the Euston terminus is currently estimated at £4.8bn, against an original budget of £2.6bn, while the decision to pause work will add £200m in upfront costs.
