Property owners could face criminal prosecution following a tax investigation into Airbnb hosts.
The online holiday let platform has been forced to share details of all of its users’ proceeds with HMRC as part of an investigation into missing tax receipts.
HMRC is understood to have sent 800 letters to people who it suspects have not paid enough tax since February. The letters are designed to remind users that they must disclose rental income from the platform.
