HBD’s £140m Brum Jewellery Quarter scheme gets the go-ahead

HBD has secured planning permission for its £140m Neighbourhood residential scheme on the former Sytner car site in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. The development will create 414 high-quality, design-led one, two and three-bedroom apartments, with amenities including private gardens, a roof terrace, social spaces, a gym and lounge, work from home areas and a concierge. Designed with wellness in mind, Neighbourhood will include extensive planting and gardens alongside a range of features to allow residents to live as sustainably as possible. There will also be a carefully selected mix of independent bars and restaurants. The development is HBD’s second high-profile project within the city’s historic Jewellery Quarter, with construction on its Setl scheme already well underway. Simon Raiye, director at HBD, said that Neighbourhood will create “a vibrant new community and a new urban garden for everyone to visit and enjoy”, adding: “Its outward-facing design will give an inclusive feel and allow the scheme to blend into its surroundings, enriching the quarter and creating an important new community gathering place.” Adam Brady, executive director and head of urban regeneration at HBD, said: “Neighbourhood fits into our strategy of creating thoughtfully designed and sustainable communities. As always, we are keen to collaborate with the very best local artists, makers and producers to really add to the exciting Jewellery Quarter ecosystem.” HBD, part of the Henry Boot Group, has a £1.2bn development pipeline and is underway with a number of large-scale urban regeneration schemes. It expects work on Neighbourhood to begin on site early next year, with completion in 2026.
