Landsec, part of the St David’s Partnership, has secured Gaucho as a tenant at St David’s Dewi Sant shopping centre in Cardiff, marking the restaurant chain’s debut location in Wales.
The Argentinian steakhouse will occupy 8,000 sq ft on the Hayes, the premium retail and dining destination in St David’s. Further terms were not disclosed.
The restaurant will span two floors accommodating 220 covers and will feature private dining rooms plus a cocktail bar. It will run on 100% renewable energy, operate a zero-waste policy and serve only carbon-neutral beef.

Gaucho, which opened in 1994 in London’s Piccadilly, operates 12 restaurants in London and has six regional sites in Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Liverpool and Newcastle. The latter will open in March this year.
Mark Warne, brand account director in the F&B and leisure team at Landsec, said: “We are curating a premium offer at St David’s so that we can continue to provide guests with unique experiences which cannot be found elsewhere. With the Ivy, the Ivy Asia and Giggling Squid all making their regional debut at the Hayes, St David’s is fast becoming the premier destination for high-end dining in Wales.”
The news comes after British perfume house Penhaligon’s launched in Wales at the end of last year, also with a store at the Hayes.
