Godwin’s Cambridgeshire resi scheme to go ahead

Godwin Developments has secured planning permission from East Cambridgeshire District Council for its first single-family housing development, known as Cathedral Green, in Ely, Cambridgeshire. The 4.9-acre scheme comprises 78 two- and three-bedroom houses, 20,000 sq ft of flexible commercial space and parking. At the heart of the development will be a reimagined village green, which will be car-free to support the creation of a safe zone for pedestrians and children. It will also include a woodland walk and play areas for children, as well as retreat and exercise space. The development forms a part of the company’s ambition to create a strong nationwide build-to-rent platform, offering homes in “areas with robust demand characteristics”. Tom Smallbone, head of residential development at Godwin Developments, said: “Positioned in a gateway location in the sought-after cathedral city of Ely, [the scheme] offers quick access to Cambridge – one of the UK’s major life sciences hubs and a focus for growth, investment and employment for years to come. “We see the Oxford-Cambridge corridor and the Home Counties as key for developing more single-family homes for rent, while London, Bristol and Birmingham are the target cities for our multifamily offering.” Rapleys was the planning consultant and RG+P the architect on the scheme.
