Anchor and McCarthy Stone’s £40m plans set for go-ahead

Anchor and McCarthy Stone’s £40m proposal to redevelop the former Royal Works site off Coleshill Street, Sutton Coldfield, is set to be approved by Birmingham City Council’s planning committee. The jv plans 137 one- and two-bedroom apartments, designed to meet the diverse needs of Sutton Coldfield’s growing and ageing population. The development will offer a range of tenures across the affordability spectrum. The development will consist of two buildings, designed to form one cohesive retirement community, with shared facilities and landscaped gardens accessible for residents of both buildings. Katie Fisher, divisional managing director at McCarthy Stone, said: “Our proposals will help address the local demand for specialist retirement accommodation, providing greater choice for those in later life while freeing up the wider housing market for families and first-time buyers further down the chain.” This development will be the fifth the jv has signed on since the inception of the £250m partnership. It plans to deliver more than 1,000 multi-tenure retirement properties across eight large-scale retirement villages.
