Urban Splash and Milligan mull jv expansion
Regeneration company Urban Splash and mixed-use developer Milligan are planning to expand their joint venture to more UK locations.
The jv said it has identified up to 10 cities where there are opportunities and proactive local authorities, and that it is in “active dialogue” in a number of those locations.
The pair is already working together on Swansea Council’s 5.5-acre Swansea Central North development, which will include offices, flats and flexible workspaces. Urban Splash was appointed by the council last year to act as development partner on several sites in its £750m masterplan.

John Milligan (pictured left), chief executive of Milligan, said the pair “first talked about doing something together more than 15 years ago”.
“It has taken a while to put our first jv together,” he said. “But the timing couldn’t be better. Now more than ever, as we redefine our physical spaces and create new town centre destinations, agility and diverse thinking will help us create enduring places.”
Milligan added: “As a city, Swansea has so much potential. There are other key locations in the UK too where we feel the two businesses could produce an innovative and exciting solution.”
Tom Bloxham (pictured right), chairman and founder of Urban Splash, said Milligan will “bring expertise in leisure, commerce and market curation which, as a complete offer, provides the type of innovative thinking local authorities will need as they embark on town centre transformations”.
Nathan Cornish, director at Urban Splash, said: “We’re always looking for great partners. Collaboration of this kind is something we’ve long engaged in, with a great track record in working with strategic partners like Places for People, Pears Group, and Peel L&P. Milligan is a very well-respected retail and leisure specialist which complements our offer.”
