The “Great Resignation” sweeping Britain gathered pace over the summer with a record number of employees quitting their jobs amid a post-Covid surge in demand for flexible working.
More than 1m people moved from one job to another in the three months to September, according to official figures.
An all-time high of 400,000 resigned from their jobs. A further 64,000 were dismissed, while the rest were either at the end of a temporary contract or declined to say.
