Hammerson has blamed the government’s ban on evictions for hampering its recovery.
The flagging retail landlord, which posted a pre-tax loss of £354m for H1 as its estate fell in value by a further 6.4% to £5.5bn, said that its fortunes had been worsened by the moratorium.
Rita-Rose Gagné, who took over as chief executive in November, said: “The rent moratorium has been extremely surprising to me and it is inexplicable to me that it would go on so long, to 2022.”
