Savege left Morgan Sindall Investments last month after more than 16 and a half years at the company.
He joined as a development manager and was later promoted to head of regeneration, then in 2018 became director of new partnerships. In this role he was responsible for public sector joint ventures.
His departure follows other moves, with managing director Wes Erlam leaving to join Legal & General Capital earlier this year.
At Wates Residential, Savege will play a role in bidding for new developments and maintaining partnerships with local authorities and housing associations.
The Wates Group is working with Havering Council on the £1.2bn 12-estates regeneration in Romford, with other construction projects with Barking & Dagenham’s Be First and delivering Notting Hill Genesis’ Graeme Park.
Helen Bunch, executive managing director at Wates Residential, said: “Being a family business allows us to take a long-term view and invest in the relationships we have with local authority and housing association partners.
“We are an ambitious business with significant growth plans, and by taking this approach we will be better able to deliver high quality mixed-tenure schemes for our customers and create positive legacies for the communities around our projects.”
