JLL has signed a 15-year lease for 134,000 sq ft at British Land’s 1 Broadgate, EC2, as its flagship UK office.
The agent went under offer on the space last summer and has now completed an agreement to take three floors from 2026.
British Land and GIC were granted planning to develop the 32-acre site next to Liverpool Street early in 2019.
Designed by AHMM, the building comprises 546,000 sq ft, with 498,000 sq ft of workspace, 47,000 sq ft of roof terraces and 48,000 sq ft of retail and leisure. Enabling works are under way, with demolition due to start in May 2021.
JLL launched a search for a new 180,000 sq ft central London hub in October 2017. It was aiming to consolidate its commercial offices across the capital and had been targeting achieving this by around 2022. The agent will retain its base in the West End.
Stephanie Hyde, UK and Ireland chief executive at JLL, said: “Throughout this unprecedented time we have worked closely with clients and our own people to develop and evolve workplace strategies. 1 Broadgate will be central to our plan as we recognise the importance that offices play in collaboration, innovation and fostering culture and wellbeing.”
Simon Carter, chief executive at British Land, added: “The move is a real vote of confidence in London, a further endorsement of our campus strategy, and of Broadgate’s status as a world-class, mixed-use destination.”
