Persimmon posts 25% rise in forward sales in ‘robust’ year
Housebuilder Persimmon’s forward sales have grown by nearly a quarter, compared with 2019.
Forward sales stood at £1.7bn at the end of last year, which was up by around 25% on its equivalent of around £1.4bn in 2019.
In a trading update covering the year ending 31 December, the housebuilder said it generated £3.3bn in total group revenue, down 8.8% from around £3.6bn in 2019.

The group’s average selling price rose by around 6.8% to circa £230,500, up from £215,709.
New home completions fell to 13,575, compared with 15,855 in the previous year.
Persimmon said demand for new homes stayed steady throughout the second half of the year, with average weekly sales per site 39% higher than the same period in 2019, owing to the government’s temporary stamp duty holiday.
Dean Finch, group chief executive, said: “Against the backdrop of the unprecedented challenges of 2020, Persimmon produced a robust performance for the year, as we continued to deliver the new homes the country needs.
“The group’s strong second-half completions were supported by its advanced build coming into the year, an agile and effective response to the Covid-19 pandemic and resilient customer demand.”
He added that the group “continues to improve its customer service and build quality”.
