Wates and Havering lodge plans for 1,380 homes

Wates Residential and Havering Council have submitted plans for 1,380 homes at the £1bn Waterloo Estate regeneration in Romford, east London. The application is the largest estate redevelopment proposed in London this year and includes more than 550 affordable homes. Waterloo Estate is one of 12 sites earmarked for development in the programme, which will create around 3,500 new homes in the next 12 to 15 years. The £1bn project aims to double the number of council social rented homes and more than double the number of affordable homes on the estate. The partners have already received consent for 197 homes at the Napier and New Plymouth House estate in Rainham. Havering Council’s planning team will assess the application, with a decision expected in summer 2020. Kate Ives, development director for Wates Residential, said: “We know that for Havering Council and many local residents, increasing the provision of green spaces in the borough is a top priority.
