Loungers bar chain said it will be eyeing new property opportunities in the coming months, as it hopes to benefit from home-working trends and a shift to the suburbs.
Loungers operates 167 cafes, bars and restaurants in towns and city outskirts.
It announced closures across its entire portfolio on 20 March in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
The chain has since reopened 17 sites and is working to reopen a further 10 for takeaways this week. It has opted not to provide deliveries, which it says are not appropriate for its “customer and community” ethos.
Loungers said is not under the same pressure of city centre locations, transport or tourism hubs, and hopes to take advantage of its market town and suburban locations.
In an update, it said: “The versatility of our all-day offer, use of multiple day parts and occasions, alongside our value for money positioning, means we are keen to restart our new site opening programme as soon as it is sensible, and we expect to be able to secure great property opportunities in the coming months in a tenant-friendly market.”
It hopes to reopen the majority of its sites in July and will trial new technology, such as “order-at-table” tools to bring customers back into its bars, with revised layouts, PPE and new hygiene protocols.
