Redrow latest housebuilder to reopen sites

Redrow is to reopen its construction sites after downing tools in response to coronavirus disruption last month. The housebuilder will begin to open sites on 11 May in order to plan how to put social distancing protocols and physical measures in place, and expects to fully restart construction on 18 May. An online learning course for Redrow staff and induction videos for contractors on social distancing rules will be introduced, and coronavirus supervisors will be appointed on each site. Enhanced signage and PPE will also be enforced. A return to normal trading conditions depends on the relaxation of government advice, which states that moving house should be deferred unless there is no alternative, and reopening sales rooms. Executive chairman John Tutte said: “The safety and welfare of our workforce and customers is our main priority. “I am grateful to my colleagues and our supply chain partners for the exceptional work they continue to undertake to ensure we can make a measured, responsible and safe return to work next month.” Redrow’s announcement follows similar moves by Taylor Wimpey and Vistry Group. Taylor Wimpey will remobilise the majority of its sites in England and Wales from 4 May, having revised protocols with changes to site formats and providing bespoke PPE for two-person tasks.
