Tom Copley appointed deputy mayor for housing

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has appointed Tom Copley as deputy mayor for housing and residential development. Copley is a London Assembly member, chair of the housing committee and a councillor for the London Borough of Lewisham. He succeeds James Murray who left to become member of parliament for Ealing. Khan said: “As chair of the Assembly Housing committee, Tom has become a leading voice in housing policy across the UK, and has rightly earned his reputation as a relentless campaigner for the rights of council tenants and those renting in the private rented sector.” Copley added: “City Hall has taken a much more ambitious approach to tackling the housing crisis, including directly funding council housing for the first time. I look forward to building on that work in order to deliver the genuinely affordable homes that Londoners need. “The housing and homelessness crisis is one of the biggest challenges facing our city. Our goal should be a city where everyone has access to a decent home that they can afford.
