King & Co to develop luxury water tower house
Strategic land developer King & Co is to redevelop a Grade II listed water tower in Hertfordshire into a luxury three-bedroom family house.
Tonwell Water Tower is a redundant 50,000 gallon water tower, standing 21.6m high on a 0.1-acre site.
King & Co will develop 2,640 sq ft of property, with an extended ground floor and three upper floors connected by spiral staircases and contained within the concrete frame.

Tonwell Water Tower is a redundant 50,000 gallon water tower, standing 21.6m high on a 0.1-acre site.
King & Co will develop 2,640 sq ft of property, with an extended ground floor and three upper floors connected by spiral staircases and contained within the concrete frame.
It will retain features including a large bullcock (a machine for filling water tanks) and exposed pipes and brickwork. New features include a glass lift running through the core up to the 8,000 sq ft roof terrace.
Oliver King, managing director at King & Co, said: “While we are scouting the countryside for rural strategic land we come across these projects which inspire our team.”
After acquiring the site at the start of the year, King & Co has focused on designing a high end home, working with the former owner Affinity Water.
“The brutalist architecture is such a stark contrast to the rural, unmanaged landscape,” added King.
The developer will begin construction in the coming months. It will then look to rent the home to visitors in the region and is in discussions with local charities on ways for them to use the tower for free.
King & Co is a family business founded by Herbert James King in 1918. The developer specialises in unlocking large strategic land parcels for residential and commercial development.
